For 60 years, Iowa Yucatán Partners has been building meaningful relationships between Iowa and the Yucatán Peninsula through cultural exchange, education, friendship, and shared experiences. Now, you're invited to help celebrate this incredible milestone.
Join us for this FREE event on Sunday, September 27, from 1:00–3:30 p.m. at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Center in Des Moines for an afternoon honoring six decades of international connection and community.
This special anniversary celebration will feature an outstanding performance by Alma Danza all the way from Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, bringing the vibrant music and culture of the Yucatán to Central Iowa. Guests will enjoy an afternoon of celebration, conversation, and cultural appreciation while reflecting on the lasting impact Iowa Yucatán Partners has made over the past six decades.
Whether you've been involved with Iowa Yucatán Partners for years or are discovering the organization for the first time, this event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who value cultural understanding, global friendships, and educational exchange.

Alma Danza
Founded in 2023 in Mérida, Yucatán, Alma Danza is an independent folkloric dance group made up of adult teachers trained in Mexican folk dance.
Under the artistic direction of Maestro Carlos Escamilla and general direction of Maestra Martha Trujeque, the group brings traditional Mexican dance to the stage through vibrant performances. Their repertoire highlights the traditions of Yucatán, including the festive Yucatecan jarana, as well as the energetic music and movement of Veracruz’s jarocho traditions.
Through each performance, Alma Danza is dedicated to preserving Mexican traditions and sharing the richness of Mexico’s cultural heritage through dance.
